Keep Calm and Practice your Instrument!

Remember! In class we work on our concert songs together, and Mrs. Bock teaches you new skills, but you have to work on them on your own, where you can hear your own playing more easily!  Only by putting the time in can you improve!  How much should you practice? 20 minutes 3 times a week is a great place to start!

TWO HOUR DELAY SCHEDULE FOR ALL ELEMENTARY ORCHESTRAS

All Elementary Orchestra Classes are canceled but KEEP PRACTICING!

A Note About Grades:

Report cards will INCLUDE grades for orchestra.

I prefer to use a 4, 3, 2, 1 grading scale.  This is NOT like ABCDF grading!  My expectation for each student is that they are earning a 3 which defines them as "at grade level" .  If your grade is a 4, this means that you are "above grade level".  Earning a 4 is a BIG deal and does not happen very frequently!

Weekly Notes: (Mrs. Bock's thoughts on the week and other important information)

We are on a JOURNEY to learn how to play our instruments! Sometimes it may feel confusing, and we are not perfect the first time!  Remember that no matter how quickly you travel from one place to another, it is not instantaneous!!  We MUST make some mistakes in order to learn, but as long as we learn from our mistakes, and have patience with ourselves (and those around us) we will have fun and enjoy our journey into learning how to play our new instruments!

The book we will be using this year!!

We are using  A Bornoff Primer by Debbie Lyle.  This available online at FASE.org or from JW Pepper but NOT other online retailers.

IMPORTANT SIZING INFORMATION!!!

String instruments come in different sizes!  It is important to order the correct size instrument!!  Here are helpful charts for measuring your student for violin, viola, cello, or bass!

All string students need rosin, cleaning cloth and this book. Violins and violas must have a shoulder rest; cellos need a strap style endpin anchor, and basses need a rock stop.
